The vehicle in detail

Originally constructed to the order of leading California-based Porsche team The Racer’s Group, this 911 GT3 Cup was entered into the 2009 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, duly contesting eight of the 12 rounds held.
For the season-opening 24 Hours of Daytona, the car was shared by factory Porsche drivers Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister, RSCS regular Andy Lally, plus amateurs Justin Marks and Richard Valentine. Having qualified 2nd in the GT class, the team enjoyed a relatively uneventful race to finish a superb 9th overall and 1st in class; the 2nd-placed TRG car ensured a team 1-2 and a GT class podium lockout for Porsche. Seat time in the series’ 250-mile Sprint races was shared between Lally and Marks; those in Daytona, New Jersey, and Mid-Ohio yielding creditable GT class results of 3rd, 4th, and 8th respectively. Additionally, Valentine returned to the squad for the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen in June, although this ended in retirement shortly before three-quarters distance. Following the season’s conclusion the car was sold to Norway, where it has resided ever since. Owned by the vendor since 2010, it remains in highly original condition and would represent a relatively affordable—and appropriately historic—entry into the myriad GT3 revival events for which it is eligible.
