The Porsche 997 Turbo
When it left the Porsche dealerships in 2006, the 997 Turbo became the most powerful 911 in history, dethroning even the legendary 959. Just like its predecessor, the 996 Turbo, it does not use the same flat-6 engine with a rear overhang as the Carrera versions, but the famous 3.6 Mezger that equipped the GT1. This block, which develops 480hp here, is coupled to two variable geometry turbochargers that deliver 620Nm of torque and deliver performances that still impress today: the 0 to 100Km/h is swallowed in 3.9s, the kilometer from a standing start in 21.9s. This 5th generation 911 Turbo pushes hard, very hard.
The car’s dynamic qualities are just as exceptional, the all-wheel drive system – capable of varying the torque up to 100% on one of the two trains – coupled with the driving aids allow the driver to corner at high speeds in complete safety. Cornering traction is simply exceptional and the next corner comes very, very quickly. As always with Porsche, the braking is there with 4-piston calipers and 350mm discs located behind the 4 19-inch rims specific to the Turbo model that allow the vehicle to stop in complete serenity.
The great quality of the 911 Turbo is its versatility, the car is as well adapted to drive on highways as to unleash its power on winding roads by adopting a particularly high rhythm.
