Elferspot Market Highlights: Four Paint to Sample Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS

Day after day, countless interesting Porsche sports cars are listed on Elferspot. Time and again, truly incredible vehicles appear on the market. With our Elferspot Market Highlights, we present some of these particularly exciting listings in detail. Today, we’re featuring a whole quartet of Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS models in Paint to Sample colors.

Ryan Friedman Turns New York into the RS Capital

You might think Ryan Friedman has made it his mission to gather as many Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS models as possible. The New York dealer currently has five of these rare racing 997s on offer. During a photo shoot with Daniel from Autofocus NYC, he brought together four different PTS models. For the shoot, the New York dealer gathered cars in Mexico Blue, Speed Yellow, RS Orange, and Viper Green. Three of them are currently for sale on Elferspot.

Even a standard 997.2 GT3 RS is anything but a mass-produced car. A total of only 1,619 units were built. Reportedly, 541 of them were intended for the U.S. market. The proportion of “Paint to Sample” vehicles was likely not very high. Getting four American cars in such rare custom colors in front of the camera at the same time would therefore be extremely difficult to replicate.

450 PS, a manual transmission, and a limited color palette

The Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS, introduced in 2009, produces 450 PS from a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated Mezger engine. It revs up to 8,500 rpm and was available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. With a curb weight of 1,370 kilograms, shorter gear ratios, dynamic engine mounts, and a wider track, it was even more thoroughly tuned for on-track performance than the standard GT3.

However, the selection of colors straight from the factory was rather limited. Carrara White and Aqua Blue Metallic were the two standard colors. Gray Black came at an extra cost. In addition, there were trim options in Guards Red or White Gold Metallic. Anyone who wanted their GT3 RS in a different color had to order a “Paint to Sample” car. That’s exactly what makes Friedman’s quartet so interesting.

Mexican blue with black and yellow, just over 7,000 miles on the odometer

Ryan Friedman’s Mexico Blue GT3 RS has only 7,047 miles on it. According to the listing, it is one of only two known U.S. cars in this color. The light blue solid paint is accented by black side skirt trim and GT3 RS lettering. The color scheme is rounded out by the yellow brake calipers of the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system.

Inside, the car features sport bucket seats as well as a roll bar in Mexico Blue. Yellow seat belts, door straps, and the yellow 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel continue the PCCB contrast theme in the interior as well. It makes for a very compelling combo, which you can’t really get away from.

The Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS in Speed Yellow is also said to be one of only two such models in North America

Like its Mexico Blue counterpart, the Speed Yellow GT3 RS is, according to the New York dealer, one of only two GT3 RS models in this color combination in North America. Speed Yellow was by no means unknown within the Porsche model lineup, but it was not part of the standard color palette for the 997.2 GT3 RS.

The car has 8,040 miles on it, and its exterior color is carried through to the stitching, seat belts, door handle pulls, and steering wheel markings. It also features black graphics, PCCB brakes, and sport bucket seats.

A tribute to its predecessor – one-of-a-kind piece in RS Orange

As if two GT3 RS models with only one color match weren’t rare enough, Ryan Friedman also has a one-of-a-kind U.S. model for sale. After all, there was likely only one GT3 RS painted in RS Orange in North America. RS Orange immediately brings to mind the 997.1 GT3 RS, but for its successor, it was only available as a special-order color.

It has 11,896 miles on the odometer. Here, too, black decorative graphics, ceramic brakes, and sport bucket seats are paired with yellow accents in the interior. Anyone who takes a seat in this 450 PS racing 911 can be sure of its exclusivity.

The Viper Green GT3 RS has only covered 93 miles

Rounding out the quartet shown here is a Viper Green 997.2 GT3 RS with just 93 miles on the odometer. Its combination of a bold custom paint job and virtually zero mileage makes it doubly exceptional. Unfortunately, it is not currently for sale.

But Ryan Friedman still has an ace up his sleeve and another PTS model of the 2011 911 GT3 RS on offer. In fact, his New York showroom still has a Riviera Blue model in stock with 3,318 miles on it. As said in the beginning, New York seems to have become the RS capital.
