1998 Based on the acclaimed design of the 1993 Boxster Concept, the Porsche Boxster, or Porsche 986, appeared in 1996. It was Porsche’s first mid-engined sports car since the 914. The Porsche 986 was built from 1996 to 2004. Six-cylinder boxer engines were used in all Porsche 986s. From 2.5 to 3.2 liters of displacement, the Porsche 986 drew between 204 and 266 hp. A total of 164,874 Porsche 986s were built.
