Le véhicule en détail

The lightness made to 911, in its purest form: this 911 example has been just prepared for racing according to the specifications of the well known R produced in less than 20 cars. Starting from a 1968 911L chassis produced for the American market, the car underwent a complete restoration then preparation, in order to to race among the prototypes, in the GTP class until 1969.

It was the first 911 developed for racing just two years after its debut: the R is a small special series manufactured by the Stuttgart coachbuilder Baur in collaboration with Porsche racing department. The chassis used for the production model were extensively lightened with composite materials.

The white bodywork – standard color for all the R – is largely built in fiberglass (doors, fenders, bumpers and bonnets) as well as the glasses which are made of Plexiglas. The edges of the fenders are slightly widened in order to accommodate larger wheels: for the first time rims with different depth were mounted between the front and the rear: 6 inches in front and 7 behind.

The performance made it necessary to integrate the standard radiator for oil cooling with an additional into the front fender. To improve weight distribution, the oil tank was moved in front of the rear axle, while inside everything superfluous was removed as the rear seats, the upholstery or the heating system.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 100 liters with an external cap. The rear torsion bars had an increased diameter of 22 mm as well as the brake calipers which were larger and developed for intensive use.

The engine, strictly derived from the 906 model powered by two 46 Weber triple-corp carburettors, is equipped with the Marelli double ignition for a total power of 210 horsepower; the “megaphone” exhausts transmit the melody of the most rabid flat-six 2000 there is.

Regularly registered car, with FIA HTP, ready to hit the track. Visible by appointment in Bologna. Further details on www.gulfblue.it
