The facelift version of the 997, the 997.2, was introduced in 2009 and featured further refinements and technological advancements. One of the most groundbreaking aspects of the 997.2 was the introduction of the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. The PDK was a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that offered seamless gear changes and improved efficiency compared to the manual transmission or previous automatic (Tip-Tronic) boxes. It represented a significant leap forward in “automatic” gearbox technology. With one clutch for the even gears and another for the odd, it provided drivers with the convenience of an automatic transmission while still allowing for visceral manual shifting when desired.
