In fact, in terms of experience, this compact coupé easily beats the larger Porsches!
Exterior
Is a black painted German the most exciting combination there is? No, anything but. However, if it is a Basalt Black Cayman 2.9 from April 2012, that changes everything. The design, with its oval headlight units and steeply sloping roofline, is clearly the work of a true Porsche designer. The stocky dimensions and shorter overhang – especially at the rear, on the other hand, make the Cayman less obvious. What makes this facelift version extra exciting are the 19-inch multi-spoke SportDesign wheels, large double central exhaust, dark background of the headlight housings and the LED lamps in the rear units. The immaculate condition is also very nice; we rarely see them so tight!
Interior
The cabin of the Cayman is also more compact and therefore cozier than other Porsche models. The result is that you attract this sports car, as it were. Thanks in part to the Black leather sports seats, the Cayman sits like a glove, so perfect. The acclaimed Porsche crest is proudly displayed on the headrests – and quite rightly so, given the almost untouched condition of the Cayman cockpit. This has clearly been handled very carefully, despite the characteristic Sport Chrono clock on the dashboard, which challenges you to go even further on the circuit…
Options & extras
Circuit knight or not, those who use the Cayman for the more everyday things are also very comfortable. For example, the sports seats are heated and the Porsche is equipped with a real Comfort package. This means things like automatic climate control, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps including headlamp cleaning, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors plus a rain sensor are included in the deal. Technique & performance
Anyone who sees the Porsche Cayman of the 2nd series as a wannabe 911 does the car really short. And himself, for that matter. The 2.9 liter 6-cylinder boxer engine is located in the back, as befits a real Porsche. All 265 horses are released to the rear wheels via a lightning-fast 7-speed PDK transmission. It enables the compact and agile sports coupé to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds; that is no less than 1.3 seconds faster than the 1st series Cayman with automatic transmission. The top speed of 263 km/h is also 10 km/h higher. In fact, this is the Cayman as it should be. The PASM Porsche Active Suspension Management makes it extremely tight through bends as well.
