In 2018 Porsche celebrated the brand’s 70th anniversary with a concept that didn’t go unnoticed, the 911 Speedster Concept. A year later, the car was officially offered in a limited version of 1948 examples. The philosophy was to combine a track-oriented car with a convertible, taking the concept much further than previous speedster generations (3.2, 964, 997).
Aesthetically, the 991 Speedster revives the characteristics of previous-generation speedsters, with a “fly-line” roofline and a windscreen shortened by 50mm and more inclined than on convertibles. The side windows are reduced and the double rear hump transforms the car into a strict two-seater.

The speedster is also lighter than a normal 991, thanks to the use of a manual soft top and body components made of carbon-reinforced composites. As standard, the car is offered without a radio or air conditioning (free options), and the famous speedster straps save a few extra grams. All in all, the speedster weighs in at 1465 kilos, almost 200 less than a normal 4S cabriolet.

In terms of chassis and mechanics, the Speedster 991 goes much further than previous versions. Porsche has used a chassis derived from the 991 GT3, and the powertrain is the 510 hp 4.0L used on the eponymous coupé, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with automatic heel-point blip.
