Het voertuig in detail

Heavily customized “Outlaw” versions of the iconic Porsche 356 trace back to Southern California’s post-war hot-rod movement. Today, they have evolved into coveted classics that meld old-world beauty and craftsmanship with modern upgrades for better-than-factory performance and driving dynamics.

This tastefully executed and well-documented 356 C “Outlaw” is no exception, as it benefits from extensive mechanical and interior modifications carried out by U.K.-based Porsche specialists Transend and PR Services, among others. Finished in black with red racing stripes, it is said to retain original bodywork and to have been repainted in Germany under previous ownership.

The engine is a last-generation 616/36 flat four-cylinder sourced from a Porsche 912 and modified by leading 356 U.K. specialist Andy Prill. The displacement was increased to 1,720 cubic-centimeters and the engine was rebuilt with a full-flow oil system, Shasta pistons and cylinders, Neutek camshaft, Solex 40 PII carburetors, and Petronix ignition, among other modifications.

The transmission, rear drivetrain, and disc brakes were also rebuilt—the latter having been converted to a dual-circuit system. The suspension was overhauled and features Koni Classic shock absorbers and a larger, 17-millimeter anti-roll bar set up for spirited road driving and competition use. The starter motor was reportedly replaced with a standard Porsche unit and wiring for the six-volt electrical system was checked and refurbished where necessary. Lighting has also been updated to either halogen or LED bulbs.

The interior was refurbished with custom seats upholstered in red leather and fitted with four-point harnesses. The Nardi mahogany and aluminium steering wheel is of the type originally offered as a factory option. The instrumentation is said to be original, except for the tachometer, which is said to be a rebuilt unit sourced from a 356 Carrera and calibrated to 8,000 rpm with a 6,000-rpm red line. Other modifications include a Halda Tripmaster odometer, a Junghans J30BZ mechanical aircraft clock, and a VDO oil pressure gauge in place of the original clock.

In addition to the uninstalled clock, the car is accompanied by service invoices dating back to 1986.
