1983 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera for sale!

The 3.2 Carrera was launched in October 1983 and although similar in appearance to the outgoing SC, had numerous technical improvements to improve driveability, refinement, and performance.

Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy and acceleration, but the top speed increased from 146mph to 152mph, putting new Carrera into mini supercar territory.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

The interior was improved over the SC too, with new luxurious materials and electric seats replacing the manual items together with an improved heating system.

Manufactured in 1983 for the Italian market, this LHD coupe is one of the very first 3.2 Carreras to leave Stuttgart and was delivered in schieferblau metallic (661) with blue pinstripe interior, the colour combination it is presented in today. Unusually it is fitted with both an electric sunroof and factory air conditioning, together with electric windows/ mirrors and is now adorned with original 7”x 16” and 8”x 16” genuine Fuchs wheels, which complement the classic exterior perfectly.

Unfortunately, when it came to the UK in 1999, it appears that any previous documentation and books did not make the journey with the car, as there is absolutely nothing in the file.  Having said that, for those who understand this era of 911 as intimately as we do, there is a lot more on offer here than the average UK example, which is why we had no hesitation in purchasing this car for stock.

It had a recorded 131,000 Kms (82,000 miles) showing on the odometer when imported to the UK in 1999, which given its lack of history we cannot substantiate. However, given the overall condition of the car, we think it is believable and it has covered only a further 15,000 miles in the last 22 years.

It has just two registered keepers since coming to the UK, the first we do not personally know, however, the second who we purchased the car from, was very particular.

He had been looking for a RHD car for some time, struggling to find a nice example within his budget. However, when he went to view this LHD car, he purchased it instantly based on its condition.

Whilst it has clearly covered very few miles in the last 22 years, he has documented all his expenditure and nearly every MOT/road tax disc is with the car, except when it was the off the road (which is also documented). It was also kept in a dry garage and he informed us, was never taken out in the rain during his ownership.

When we carried out our pre purchase inspection, it became obvious this car had certainly benefited from the warmer Italian climate in its early life and a careful custodian in its recent years, as unlike most UK examples, it really is a cut above the norm in overall condition, with all original panels still in place.

If you are looking for an example with a textbook service history over the last 38 years, this car isn’t for you. However, if a good solid dependable 911 that won’t break the bank is a priority as it was with its last custodian, then this carefully looked after example won’t disappoint.

With its past Italian history, this LHD classic with factory A/C and sunroof, would make a perfect companion for a reunion blast down to the Amalfi coast to enjoy a plate of scialtielli ai frutti di mare, washed down with a bottle of Fuore Bianco, but in the safe knowledge that whilst Italian romance is captivating, German engineering will get you home again.
