Launched in February 2018, the 991.2 GT3 RS was the fastest and most track-focused GT3 to come out of Porsche at the time and set a new standard for street/track performance cars. Although visually, it was largely unchanged from the 991.1 generation car, the facelifted variant received a significant number of tweaks beneath the car that made it significantly sharper and shockingly fast on track. Many of the modifications came from the GT2 RS- these helped increase downforce while also aiding in cooling for the brakes, meaning that you could lap for longer without worry.
This 2019 GT3 RS is finished in the launch color Lizard Green and shows 5,953 miles on the odometer. Satin black sills, fender vents, and NACA ducts on the hood accent the outrageous bright green paint. Unlike most GT3 RSs, it was optioned without sill graphics, which looks outstanding and makes the dark body accents stand out even more on the green paint. This car has been under the care of just one owner and was delivered new at Stevens Creek Porsche in Santa Clara, CA, which is also the only service center to work on the car. The wheels are finished in Satin Platinum and wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx tires. Behind the wheels sit a set of Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes with yellow calipers that offer fade-free performance on track and don’t cover your wheels in brake dust.
Move inside the car, and you are met with a set of carbon-backed bucket seats wrapped in black leather, with black Race-Tex centers and white accent stitching throughout. These seats both look outstanding and provide lots of support when out on track, yet they are still quite comfortable for long drives. This GT3 RS was fitted with an electronic nose-lift system, which is extremely convenient given the low front end and allows for a much easier time moving the car in and out of parking lots and driveways.
Powering the GT3 RS is Porsche’s famed 4.0-liter flat-6, which received a 20-horsepower bump over the 991.1 GT3 RS. Still able to rev to 9,000 RPM, this engine is paired with a mandatory 7-speed PDK Gearbox that clicks off perfect, lightning-fast shifts while on track but is also pleasant to use while driving around town. Under the car, all of the suspension links are now fitted with solid ball joints, which offer greater control and less unwanted chassis movement. When the 991.1 GT3 RS debuted, Porsche set a lap time at the Nurburgring that was almost unbelievable- clocking a 7:20 run around the Nordschleife- but thanks to all the little tweaks around the 991.2, that number dropped by more than 23 seconds, resulting in a 6:54.4. This was just the 3rd Porsche to break the 7-minute mark around the track.
Although the 992 GT3 RS is finally making its way into the hands of Porsche enthusiasts, initial impressions suggest that, although it may be a bit faster around the track, it is getting overly harsh for road use. The 991.2 GT3 RS is still plenty compliant on the road and as fast as most drivers can utilize on the track, making it a real sweet spot in the GT3 RS lineage.
