Although it retains the iconic 911 lines and fundamentals of its predecessor, the 991 is made up of 90% new components, and also features a 100mm longer wheelbase, 46 mm wider front track and a lower roofline. The C4 is further widened at the rear arches by 22mm to accommodate a broader axel. The body is a composite of aluminum and various steels that impressively sees an increase of torsional rigidity up to 25% over the 997. The newly developed 3.4L flat six is slightly down on displacement but up on power at 340bhp and will see the car sprint to 62mph in 4.4sec with the PDK gearbox. The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission offers gear changes with virtually no interruption in the flow of power. Bi-Xenon™ headlights are standard, as are the new size 20-inch wheels. One inch larger than those of the 997, their increased rolling circumference is said to improve both comfort and performance. The Sport button, fitted as standard, gives a more responsive engine performance program. When engaged it will also give this PDK equipped car more aggressive shift points when in automatic mode. Braking comes courtesy of four-piston, aluminum monobloc brakes with black calipers, and optimized with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and standard Porsche Stability Management (PSM). In addition to helping provide stabilty, PSM also improves braking response and braking power in emergency conditions.Being the C4 this car is of course fitted with Porsche’s rear-biased all-wheel drive system and Porsche Traction Management (PTM).
Pleasingly the 991 retains the classic five-gauge layout, providing the driver with essential information, and the tachometer is located at the center of the display as has always been the tradition on Porsche. Long-legged drivers benefit from an additional inch (25 mm) of legroom in the 991 also. The revised center console includes a high-resolution, 4.6-inch full VGA TFT color display, displaying onboard computer, audio system, or navigation information. There is automatic climate control with zonal temperature controls for the driver and front passenger is standard.
