Carrera GTS: Porsche 911 now even sportier
Stuttgart. With 408 hp, high driving dynamics, and distinctly sporty equipment, the new 911 Carrera GTS takes the top spot in the Carrera model range. With an additional 23 hp over the 911 Carrera S, the new GTS—available as a Coupé and a Cabriolet—and equipped with a 3.8-liter engine, closes the gap to the 911 GT3 with 435 hp.
Unique within the Carrera family, the 911 Carrera GTS combines the 44-millimeter-wider Carrera 4 body of the all-wheel-drive models—including a wider track—with classic rear-wheel drive. The GTS also stands out from the other Carrera models in many other details, both visually and technically. For example, it comes standard on black-painted 19-inch RS Spyder wheels with a central locking mechanism and a polished rim flange, which are fitted with 305/30 ZR 19 tires on the rear axle. Other visual features include the SportDesign front apron with a black-painted spoiler lip, special black side skirts, and Carrera GTS lettering on the doors and trunk lid in black or silver, depending on the exterior color. The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will celebrate its world premiere in early October at the Paris Motor Show.
Special attention was paid to the intake and exhaust flow of the now 408-horsepower 3.8-liter flat-six engine: In the special resonance intake system, six vacuum-controlled flaps now switch between power- and torque-optimized geometries, whereas in the Carrera S engine, this is handled by a single flap. As a result, the maximum torque of 420 Newton-meters is reached as early as 4,200 rpm—200 rpm earlier than in the Carrera S. This is complemented on the exhaust side by the sport exhaust system with two independently designed dual tailpipes, whose outer shells are painted black, while the inner tubes are polished on the outside and feature a nano-coating. The Carrera GTS comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission; the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is available as an option. The top speed with the manual transmission increases by four kph compared to the Carrera S, reaching 306 kph. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kph improves by 0.1 seconds across the board; for example, the GTS Coupé with PDK, combined with the Sport Chrono Package Plus in Sport Plus mode, achieves this in 4.2 seconds. Fuel consumption in the NEDC for the Carrera GTS with PDK is 10.2 liters per 100 km, with CO2 emissions at 240 g/km.
