1984 Porsche 928 S Strosek

When Porsche launched the 928 in the late 70s, it was a groundbreaking GT car that was largely without parallel in the market. Big. Wide and with a fantastic V8 under the hood, the new car offered a completely unmatched driving experience well packaged in something that at the time looked like a spaceship. And it must be the case that it is a car that could not look wilder? or?

Well. Not everyone agrees, it turns out. The year is 1982 and in a small picturesque community called ‘Utting am Ammersee’ just west of Munich, a small but oh so significant company starts up. The company’s founder Vittorio puts his sirname on the company and Strosek is founded. Strosek, together with a number of similar companies such as Koenig, focuses early on on offering upgrade packages for the Porsche 928. Both mechanically but above all visually. And visually it was. In the best possible 80s way.

The vehicle in detail

The Strosek kit was offered for the 928 in three stages. This vehicle has stage 3, which in practice means a clearly visible widening of both the front and rear axles. The front end has been fitted with a more distinctive splitter and new headlights. The side profile is dominated by the “side strakes” typical of the period, which were a popular way of changing the look of a car in the early 1980s and which today wonderfully underscore the era of the car. The wide body now rests on a set of specially adapted Fuchs rims fitted with contemporary Michelin tires to maintain the look without compromising performance. The rear end is largely recognizable from the vehicle on which it is based, with its distinctive exhaust system leading straight back on the driver’s side.

It’s as if your brain somehow relaxes after taking it all in. Almost as if your brain has time to normalize the unusual. At that moment, the best thing to do is open the door to experience the next rush. Sometimes a detail in the interior catches your eye. Maybe a door sill or something similar. Not in this case. When you open the driver’s door, the interior, completely lined with dark green leather, immediately catches your eye. A wonderful and, at the time, obvious combination with the gray-silver exterior. Here we recognize the 928 with its driver’s environment, which is completely designed for long journeys at high speeds. The instrument cluster that follows the steering column when it is adjusted. Or why not the sun visor… for the back seat! It’s not always the case, but sometimes things were better in the old days.

A wonderfully well-preserved example of German tuning history at its finest. 120,760 km, naturally with books and keys, but also with a folder containing vehicle maintenance documents. Mechanically, the 310 hp factory output has been retained. A drive package that is perfectly matched to its purpose and in equally good condition as the rest of the vehicle.
