Chassis No: 911 331 0591 was completed at Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen February 1973 and supplied new as a Right Hand Drive model via AFN Limited, Isleworth to its first owner, Charles Jones of Walsall in March 1973.
This was quite a unique moment for the first owner and for Porsche Great Britain’s history as it was the first year the 911 Targa was available to customers in right hand drive and of the top of the range 2.4S Targa’s only 18 were supplied to the UK and we believe only 3 were originally Silver.
There are several early photographs and notes in the history file dated July 1973 which show Mr Jones attending a customer visit to Autofarm. This early correspondence sets the tone for cars next 53 years, with each owner showing meticulous love, care and detailed ownership rarely seen in any classic Porsche.
The cars history file is nothing short of breathtaking! 3 files contain documentation relating to the car’s life including its original service and maintenance invoices, photographs, correspondence between owners, MOT’s, letters from Porsche GB and PCGB, the original book-pack, stamped service book and owners manual and a huge file of invoices.
The car changed hands twice in late 1973 and 1975 and ended up in the hands of an avid Porsche owner Mr Appleby of Kenilworth, Warwickshire. An active member of the Porsche Club GB he recalls a May Factory visit coupled with a tour of the Black Forest putting 2000 miles on the clock and a memorable 11 days motoring in Germany. The car stayed in his ownership for 15 years eventually selling the car in September 1981 to another Porsche collector a Mr C. Palmer from Sheffield for the sum of £5,850.00.
The car remained in his ownership of Mr Palmer for close to 40 years and he continued with the previous owners meticulous detail and care, documented all of the works carried out by noted UK classic Porsche specialists during his ownership.
