Importantly, this 356 has remained in careful custody, passing through the hands of a select few local collectors before coming into the present owner’s collection approximately ten years ago. This 356 C presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a beautifully maintained, and rare-colored example of what many consider to be Porsche’s quintessential design. Accompanied by a Porsche Production Specifications sheet, this charming 356 remains a testament to Porsche’s remarkable engineering prowess in the 1960s.

THE PORSCHE 356

In the world of distinguished automotive engineering, the Porsche 356 holds a dignified ranking. As Porsche’s first-ever production automobile, the 356 was a testament to ingenuity, featuring the marque’s first successful foray into design and performance. It boasted an air-cooled rear-engine layout, and its nimble handling quickly gained favor amongst driving aficionados. When the 356 C arrived as the third and final generation of the line, an improved set of disc brakes and a more power-filled, robust engine fortified the model’s standing as a classic sports car. To a discerning collector, the 356 C represents the zenith of vintage Porsche design alongside robust engineering.

The 1964 model for Porsche 356 endured as a sterling exemplar of the 356 C model, the final evolution of Porsche’s original sports car design. The model appealed to American audiences with its blend of European style and thrilling driving dynamics. Compact, agile, and powerful, the 356 was conceived with the spirit of pure driving in mind. Its distinctive silhouette was further accentuated by a palette of striking colors, including the offering’s unusual yet elegant hue of Sky Blue.

The 1964 Porsche 356 modeled itself as a seamless blend of form and function. Its nimble handling, aided by independent rear and front suspension, coupled with the power supplied by a 1.6-liter flat-four engine, made the ’64 model a joy to drive. The Sky-Blue exterior color of this model paired with a Black Leatherette interior contributes to a rare and attractive color combination, preserving its appeal amongst collectors.

Inside, the flat four-cylinder, air-cooled engine was an engineering marvel of its time. Fitted with twin Solex carburetors, it was capable of producing 75 horsepower at a 5200 RPM—a feat that made the 356 a force to reckon within international rally events. In combination with a four-speed manual transmission, the vehicle’s robust, dynamic performance was solidified.

Today, the Porsche 356 remains a coveted piece within any classic car collection, testament to Porsche’s exceptional craftsmanship and precise engineering. With its responsive handling, pert power delivery, and inherent elegance, the Porsche 356 C stands as the final and arguably the best edition of Porsche’s first production model series.
