This is particularly true when, as in this case, the vehicle is so well preserved and has such a special history.
According to the birth certificate, the Porsche data sheet (Kardex) and the historical documents, this is a rare version of an original 356 Pre-A 1500 Knickscheibe Reutter Coupe with the attributes of an exceptional vehicle:
The history of all three previous owners has been documented since the initial delivery by the original documents available, as has the mileage of 57,500 km. It is one of the few existing vehicles from German delivery that has remained in Germany throughout its entire life. The rarity value of this vehicle is further confirmed by "Matching numbers," where the number of the original engine matches the birth certificate and Kardex card. The Kardex card also documents that a new transmission was installed by Porsche in 1965 as a gesture of goodwill.
At first glance, the Porsche Coupe impresses with its well-maintained, largely mint condition. The bodywork appears to be in very solid condition, with doors and hoods closing tightly and lying flat in the bodywork with even gaps. There are no visible signs of a previous accident. There is no corrosion anywhere. There are also no visible modifications to the bodywork.
Due to its year of manufacture and significance, the car is ideal for obtaining a FIVA passport to enable participation and use in historic rallies at the highest level at events such as the 1000Miglia.
Storyteller: The story reads like a dream come true, because the original documents for this vehicle allow the complete history of its only three previous owners to be traced in detail using the original vehicle documents such as the vehicle registration document and the Kardex card from 1954: On April 28, 1954, the car was delivered to the dealer Hülpert & Co. in Dortmund. There, on May 5, 1954, the car was registered by the city of Dortmund to the merchant Emil Handtke and re-registered on October 21, 1957, due to a move to the city of Witten. On April 7, 1964, the vehicle was temporarily deregistered, and then noted in the Porsche records that on March 11, 1965, with a mileage of 7,697 kilometers, a replacement transmission was installed by Hülpert & Co. On March 15, 1974, the vehicle was temporarily deregistered again in the city of Witten. In 1983, the Handtke family, who owned the vehicle, gave the original and complete vehicle, which was in need of restoration, to Mr. Hartmut Post. On February 9, 1987, Mr. Post received notification from Porsche of the delivery condition. The planned revival was repeatedly postponed and the car was forgotten for almost three decades. Finally, in 2008, the descendant of the SECOND OWNER decided to offer the car for sale, and the third and current owner discovered the long-forgotten car at an auction. He immediately recognized its unique condition, as the car had been stored in a dry barn until then, and purchased the vehicle by sales contract dated April 18, 2008, with a mileage of just under 56,200 km.
At that time, the car was completely in its original condition in every respect, an "untouched" original, undamaged and with only about 56,000 km on the odometer. The condition of the bodywork was still very good, with only a few parts missing. The interior of the vehicle was replaced with leather, and the ribcord, headliner, and carpets were made to exactly the same type and quality. According to the available Reutter delivery information, this is therefore also a matching colors vehicle.
The owner's description meticulously details that all of the car's technology was removed, checked, and, where necessary or as a preventive measure, overhauled or replaced. All welding work on the car is invisible, and spot welding was carried out on all sides in the original locations.
The car was completed in 2014. There is comprehensive illustrated documentation of the work, including Alken work and invoices, all of which were carried out in Germany.
The original vehicle registration document from 1954 is available, as are the Reutter delivery certificate and the Porsche birth certificate.
Since then, the vehicle has been part of an important collection in southern Germany – the so-called "JL Collection" – which has set itself the goal of compiling Porsche history with a selective selection from all eras, always with a unique history or irreplaceable condition. Nevertheless, it is by no means a museum piece, as the vehicle has been regularly driven and expertly maintained.
It is the only known example in which not only are the numbers consistent, but the bodywork is still largely in its original condition, and the history and even the mileage are traceable and plausible.
The engine and transmission run smoothly and precisely. The car has been driven regularly and expertly by its owners. The current owner had the vehicle serviced at the Porsche Center until 2022 and most recently at a specialist workshop in 2025. The ongoing service work documents that the car is in excellent technical condition.
Conclusion: This special 356 1500 Coupe offers the opportunity to purchase one of the few examples built for delivery in Germany that has been in continuous, traceable third-hand ownership to date, with documented mileage and largely original substance, as well as outstanding originality. Furthermore, this is one of the rare vehicles that has both "Matching numbers" and the original color selection that still corresponds to the delivery configuration. Thanks to careful and expert care, as well as the available historical documents and comprehensive restoration and maintenance work, this vehicle is in outstanding condition in all respects. It therefore offers collectors of exceptional vehicles who appreciate originality the opportunity to purchase this extraordinary 356 Pre-A.
It is a vehicle that is regularly driven and maintained and is ready for immediate use. Its comprehensively documented history, the references from previous owners, and the possibility of participating in classic rallies such as the 1000 Miglia make this vehicle even more outstanding for any collection of unique vehicles with irreplaceable history and a high degree of preservation.

According to the Kardex vehicle card, this 356 was built as a 1500 on April 28, 1954, and delivered to the dealer Holpert & CO. The car was handed over to its first owner, Mr. Emil Handkte from Dortmund, in April.
The car remained in the Handtke family until it was taken off the road in 1974 and passed to its SECOND OWNER, Mr. Hartmut Post from Witten, in 1984. The vehicle was kept in its original condition for almost 35 years until the current owner purchased it in 2008.
At that time, the Porsche was in unrestored condition with only 56,000 km on the odometer. Except for a few small parts, the car was complete and in very good condition. Between 2008 and 2014, the 356 was then completely restored. This was documented in detail. The aim was to remain completely true to the original, and all the time and budget necessary was taken to bring the car as close as possible to its delivery condition. The current owner from Frankfurt has owned the 356 1500 since 2008.
Maintenance was carried out exclusively at the Porsche Center in Hofheim and at the restoration company that last serviced the car in the summer of 2025.
