Under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine – a rarity in an age of turbocharged engines. This engine produces 420 hp and revs passionately up to 8,000 rpm. The PDK gives the driver complete control and lightning-fast gear changes. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.9 seconds and the top speed is 300 km/h — without a roof.
The chassis is directly derived from the 718 Cayman GT4, including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a lowered sports chassis (-30 mm) and a limited-slip differential on the rear axle. This ensures razor-sharp roadholding and an almost telepathic steering response. The 718 Spyder is not a boulevard cruiser, but a driver’s car par excellence.
Inside, everything revolves around the essence of sporty driving. Adaptive sports seats, a GT sports steering wheel without buttons and optional fabric loop handles in the doors breathe motorsport. Sound insulation is limited, infotainment can even be omitted as an option — all in the name of weight saving and experience.
The 718 Boxster Spyder is not a car for everyone. It demands involvement, attention and appreciation for the mechanical. But those who understand it get something rare in return: a raw, unfiltered driving experience that is almost impossible to find in modern sports cars.
