VEHICLE HISTORY
According to Porsche's delivery confirmation, this 1975 911S Targa was delivered to New York on September 5, 1974. From 1994, the vehicle then ran in the neighboring state of Maryland until it finally returned to Germany in 2012. In 2013, this Targa was extensively restored in Germany by a workshop specializing in Porsche, including various welding work to repair the bodywork, an engine overhaul and a transmission overhaul. This restoration was commissioned and supervised by the current owner at the time. Since then, this Targa has been part of a classic car collection, which is now to be reduced in size due to its age.
MODEL HISTORY
Porsche produced the first 911 special edition model to mark the 25th anniversary of production in Stuttgart and labeled it "25 years of driving in its most beautiful form". Production of this special model totaled 400 vehicles for the German market and 500 vehicles for the American market - here the special model was called "25 Years Driving in its Purest Form". At the time, the special model was available in all body and engine variants, including the Targa, Coupé, 911, 911s and 911 Carrera. Only 16 special models of the most expensive 911 at the time, the 911 Carrera Targa with 209 hp, were produced.
A special feature of the 25th anniversary special model was, in addition to the silver exterior color and the lavish special equipment for the time, a black and grey fabric-leather combination in the interior specially designed for this special model, as well as a badge on the glove compartment lid. Furthermore, this 911 was offered with the option of a completely de-chromed finish, a feature that had previously only been available on the top-of-the-range 911 Carrera model and was intended to emphasize the sporty look of this limited series. The 25th anniversary 911 was available with either 15-inch ATS magnesium "Hackmesser" rims, which were painted in a slightly darker shade of silver, or 15-inch Fuchs rims.
The "25 years of driving in its most beautiful form" special model paved the way for many other special series of the 911. Porsche still uses limited series today, which are still extremely popular with collectors 50 years after the first special model. Against this background, it is perhaps particularly exciting for those enthusiasts to have the first 911 special model in their own garage.
