OUR 1972 PORSCHE 911E TARGA
Offered here is a rare and beautifully restored example of the 1972 Porsche 911E Targa with the desirable 2.4-litre engine. Only 861 units of the 911E Targa were produced that year, making this a highly collectible model.
This matching-numbers car was originally delivered new in France and remained with its first owner for many years. The paintwork was refreshed around 2010 under the care of the second French custodian, and it remains in beautiful condition today.
Recently acquired by us; the goal was to return this 911E mechanics to its original 1972 glory. Works included a full engine rebuild, as well as refurbishment of the suspension, braking system, and various other mechanical components to ensure optimal performance and reliability.. Every effort was made to retain originality and authenticity, ensuring a faithful restoration and maintaining original materials where possible.
The result is a stunning, period-correct 911E that runs and drives as it did over 50 years ago. It retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox, as certified by Porsche, and sits on fully restored original 6×15” Fuchs alloy wheels wrapped in correct Pirelli P6000 tires.
Inside, the sober black interior features rare and desirable factory Recaro sport seats, beautifully restored and true to period. S instruments, leather steering wheel, stabilizer bars, and other factory options are still present, contributing to both quality and rarity. We see a nicely preserved interior with normal signs of use. The original radio is also still present.
Today, the paint presents with excellent gloss and depth, even and consistent throughout. Paint meter readings confirm a respray, but importantly, show no signs of body filler or accident damage. The finish remains smooth and glossy, with only minor signs of use since the repaint. A closer inspection reveals a completely original chassis, with factory-original doors, panels, and fenders—free from any accident repairs or welds. A rare find after more than 50 years!
This ‘Ölklappe’ model — named after its unique external oil filler cap used only in 1972 — is beloved among enthusiasts and collectors alike. It offers a perfect balance of performance, practicality, and open-air driving pleasure. Well-preserved examples like this are becoming harder to come by—especially in such a distinctive and desirable color combination.
Currently registered in Belgium, the car passes technical inspection with no remarks and is ready to be enjoyed or proudly added to a collection.
