The vehicle in detail

The car was acquired by the previous owner called Matt C. around 2005. It is told that he was the 2nd owner and that he bought the car from a pilot from the Bay Area; him thus being the original owner. Matt bought the car in boxes, being already disassembled he embarked on a mission to build a very original 911R; staying true to the original specs and trying to match a lot of the factory details and finishes with many period-style and aftermarket parts.

This example ‘s body was very solid with little to no rust to start with; a perfect base to achieve the result the car now wears. The undercoating was completely scraped off and replaced / recoated with Wurth’s undercoating. The paint was completely redone.

As far as exterior goes –  just like the 911R – everything was modified. This 911 has 911R-style fiberglass front fenders, hood, and rear decklid, along with 911R-style rear flares and a 911R-style wraparound fiberglass rear bumper/guard/license panel assembly to complete the aesthetic. Plastic door handles are additional tribute pieces; with the famous metal bars on the rear window. The side, quarter, and rear windows are made from plexiglass for added lightness.

The car’s interior is very spartan, wearing a beautiful rear roll cage and cross bars. The inside was completely stripped and finished in a nice low gloss black paint. The driver and his co-pilot are sat in two classic bucket seats finished in red leather and corduroy; providing an excellent seating position and deep bolsters when hitting the canyon roads. The black Nardi steering wheel offers all the feedback and grip you’d ever want. Safety harness are vintage.

Windows are pulled up and down with a leather security strap, as the car has no regulators. A set of restored gauges were installed along with a new dash topper. Furthermore we can see the original 911R style doors & dashboard finish. Another lovely touch are the leather straps as door stops and the 911 R helmet box in the rear.  We can also see the fiberglass heater block off plates and a battery cut off switch.

The transformation involved rebuilding and installing a 3.0 911 SC engine. The engine was meticulously built with high-performance cams, amber fiber glass cooling, among other enhancements. The K-jetronic was replaced by a Weber setup with PMO intake manifolds and air shields. It even has the float bowl vents just like the 911R. Fuel pump and engine CDI are neatly installed.

The engine is mated to a 901 transmission with a 9 bolt flywheel. It has the standard A F M S X gearing which means very short first and low gears making acceleration even more impressive. The exhaust is the 2-in 2-out type; of course without heat exchangers and a straight through finish. The fuel tank has the low filler neck inside the front trunk. The window wiper was cut of and rebuild.

The engine now boasts an impressive output of 215 horsepower and 290nm torque. This might not seem a lot but this is completely up to the 911R’s original specs. Remember this car weighs just over 800kg!!

All these modifications have been appropriately registered on paper, reflecting the car’s 6-cylinder specifications on its title.

To further enhance the car’s performance, the brakes are redone and the suspension was improved with yellow Bilstein components, suitable for both street and track driving. (Additionally, an RSR sway bar has been installed in the front.) The restored Fuchs wear Michelin TB15 tires. The car is based on a real race car as set up, and the ride quality is on the stiff side of sporting.

This beautiful and purpose-built homage to the original 911R benefits from the incredibly low weight (815kg!) combined with impressive aircooled 911 performance from the 3.0 engine. It is a car that creates a pure and thrilling driving experience; a true thoroughbred to be tamed. This 911’s sole purpose is to be driven spiritedly and exercised to its full potential: on back roads or on your local race track.

The car currently has Belgian registration and is sold on behalf of a client.
