Porsche 911 SC “Safari” for sale!

Everyone remembers the 911 SC Safari, going on the terrible East African Safari in their Martini liveries. Their “badass” look has remained engraved in the minds of enthusiasts. For the occasion, the factory had prepared three Porsche 911 3.0 SC Group 4: ground clearance of 28 cm, special suspensions with reinforced anchors, a reinforced body, protected underpinnings and tires specifically designed for the event. Two cars were entrusted to Björn Waldegård and Vic Preston Jr. The third was used as a mule and a reconnaissance car.

43 years later, the Safari has not lost its greatness. The few cars produced and the simplicity of the design – so close to the original – have led enthusiasts to transform 3.0 and 3.2 SC into Safari. Ours is one of those exceptional conversions. This one is all the more interesting because it has a particularity : it is street-legal.

The vehicle in detail

Our Porsche 911 “Safari” is an evocation of the cars that participated in the East African Safari in 1978. It is originally a US Porsche 911 3.2, imported in France. The restoration/conversion of the car began in 2016. The project was simple : to obtain a very similar replica to the cars that raced at the time while making it street-legal.

To do so, the car was completely dismantled, the body and the chassis restored from scratch. Koni shock absorbers were installed and the ground clearance was increased to 28 cm. The running gear was reinforced with steel and protected. Earth tires were mounted on white Fuchs rims, faithful to the original models. Inside, the comfortable seats with headrests – faithful to the originals – were kept to swallow the miles. Standard belts and harnesses were installed. A roll bar was bolted on and the original instrumentation was retained. The heater was removed.

On the mechanical side, the original 3.2 was completely rebuilt, without any preparation. It has less than 5,000 km since its rebuild. The original five-speed gearbox has also been rebuilt. A fuel pump with a higher flow rate has been installed, as well as a stainless steel exhaust system. The electrical wiring harness was partially redone and the fuse box was moved to the front in the trunk.

For the look, the decoration was entirely done with paint. To integrate the “Sponsors” stickers at best, the whole has been varnished polylustrated. The bumpers are made of fibers as well as the engine hood, with quick release fasteners. On the front hood, three Cibié headlights have been installed, in accordance with the original, as well as a fourth one located on the passenger side door. Everything is there. We have a complete photo file of the restoration as well as the invoices made by FlatSpecialities. The car has a technical control and is ready to take the road in all conditions.

This car is a unique opportunity to acquire a magnificent replica of the 911 Safari, without doubt the coolest 911 ever. All registered, with the comfort of a standard car and usable every day !
