Group 4 homologation rules, which required 400 road cars to be built, spurred the development of ‘Project 930’ – the legendary 911 Turbo. In production from April 1975, the 930 Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3.0-litre RSR engine, in road trim a combination that delivered 260bhp for a top speed of 153mph (246km/h). The Turbo’s characteristic flared wheelarches and ‘tea tray’ rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model, while the interior was the most luxurious yet seen in a 911, featuring leather upholstery, air conditioning and electric windows. The Turbo’s engine was enlarged to 3.3 litres for 1978, gaining an inter-cooler in the process; power increased to 300bhp and the top speed of what was the fastest-accelerating road car of its day went up to 160mph (257km/h).

The vehicle in detail

The 911 Turbo’s raison d’être – the racing 935 – had pioneered what would come to be known as the ‘flat nose’ (flachbau) or ‘slant nose’ – a more aerodynamically efficient front end – and this new look was soon in demand from 911 customers. Kremer racing offered a conversion and this service as later taken up by the factory’s own Customer Department.

The Turbo Targa offered here is one of only 19 examples produced with the ‘flat nose’ (flachbau) option, code M505. The car is offered with its Porsche Certificate of Origin confirming the car is matching numbers. This 911 was originally produced with other desirable options such as the limited-slip differential (M220), heated sport seats (M139, M340, M383, M387) as well as the sports leather steering wheel with elevated hub (M018).

In April 1990 the Porsche was exported from the USA to Switzerland by its second owner, at which time the odometer reading was only 3,000 miles (4,827 kilometres). The odometer was then converted to kilometres, and the second owner kept the car until 2014 when it was sold to our vendor.

The Turbo has been very well taken care of since acquisition and the odometer now shows only 63,000 kilometres. The original service book comes with the car and is stamped up to date, the most recent service having been carried out in June 2025. The car also comes with its original tool kit, three original keys, original Swiss Carte Grise, recent invoices, and the owner’s manual with the rare ‘flachbau’ supplement.
