There was a time when every Porsche sold was a four-cylinder—for 17 years, in fact. For the company’s first 48 years, four-cylinder models defined its lineup, until 1996, when it was reduced to just two models. Cars like the 912, successor to the 356, and the four-cylinder 914 embodied Porsche’s core philosophy: lightweight design paired with just enough power and strong technical precision.

By the mid-1960s, Porsche and Volkswagen began collaborating on a shared project, each with different goals. Porsche sought a new mid-engine, four-cylinder sports car to replace the 912, while Volkswagen needed a successor to the Karmann-Ghia. Combining VW’s manufacturing strength with Porsche’s engineering expertise, the partnership produced a car that elevated both brands—boosting Porsche’s sales with an accessible sports car.

One doesn’t have to be a purist to appreciate originality, but it certainly doesn’t hurt! Broad Arrow Auctions is proud to present this 1975 Porsche 914, hailing from the penultimate year of production. Selected in Light Ivory over Black leatherette, its original window sticker reveals it was ordered with a heated rear window and, for $300, the optional Appearance Group. This bundle of desirable options included a leatherette covered steering wheel and shifter boot, front fog lights, a dual-tone horn, a center storage box, and a center console with a VDO clock, oil temperature gauge, and voltage meter.

The 1.8-liter 914’s original Bill of Sale from TC Porsche Audi records its first owner as Robert Pedersen of Tacoma, Washington, on 12 March 1975. Furthermore, the document reveals it was dealer equipped with an Blaupunkt AM radio for $125, side stripes for $38, and pressure cast alloy wheels for $380 listed as “Porsche Mags.” Pedersen kept the car for 16 years before selling it to PCA member Richard Anton based in nearby Enumclaw in March 1991. Even 16 years after it was built, locating an unmodified, low-mile 914 with original paint was quite the task, yet this is exactly the 914 Anton found!

Over the next 35 years, until his passing in 2025, the Antons kept the 914 in exceptionally original condition, enjoying it at Porsche Club of America events—winning a 1st Place PCA Preservation Award in 2021—on weekends when they weren’t competing in or judging Golden Retriever Club of America shows. Original build information sourced from Dave Pateman confirms the 914 retains its original numbers-matching engine and that the transmission number was not recorded in the factory’s files. Furthermore, paint meter readings conducted at the time of consignment reveal original Light Ivory paint across the car, a clear sign of the 914’s uncommon originality.

With just under 90,000 miles displayed at the time of cataloging, it has received an inspection and service performed in advance of the sale and is offered with its original window sticker, Bill of Sale, and build information. As a compelling and highly original example of Porsche’s beloved mid-engine sports car this 914 is made even more desirable by its two-owner history and careful preservation over 50 years.
