When the Porsche 928 S was introduced in 1978, it left the public somewhat perplexed. Conceived as a successor to the legendary 911, it represented a radical departure from Porsche’s established formula. Here was a large V8 mounted at the front, with none of the additional weight traditionally required in the front bumpers. One of the 928’s most remarkable characteristics is its exceptional weight distribution. The gearbox is mounted at the rear in transaxle configuration, helping to achieve a near-perfect balance between the front and rear axles. It also incorporates one of the 928’s most distinctive technical features: the Weissach axle, named after Porsche’s famous R&D centre.
