The V8 engine of the Stuttgart sports coupé was optimized in several evolutionary stages and the vehicle's technology and appearance were further developed. From 1980, the 928 S with a displacement of just under 4.6 liters, 300 hp and a top speed of up to 250 kph was already a force on any highway. To underline its performance and reliability, Porsche had a standard 928 S driven for a total of 24 hours on the high-speed track in Nardò in 1983. During this time, it covered a distance of 6033 kilometers and reached an average speed of 251.4 kph. in 1984, the power output was increased again to 310 hp and 400 Nm torque.
With the final expansion stage from 1992 as the 928 GTS, the last vehicle of this model series left the factory in 1995 and Porsche said goodbye to this vehicle concept completely for several years.
