The 964 version of the Porsche 911 appeared in 1989 with 4-wheel drive, with the rear-wheel drive version appearing in 1990. This model featured the new 3.6L engine with 250hp/310Nm, which reached the first 100km/h in 5.6sec, with a maximum speed of 6700rpm.
In 1992, the 964RS (Rennsport, or as they say “Racing”) was presented, a lighter and rear-wheel-drive only version, based on the “Carrera Cup” competition variant, and it is precisely this RS version that this example of Porsche 911 (964) pays homage, in what we can call an RS… even more RS. The owner’s intention was to gain performance by reducing weight, maintaining a good balance of behavior and feedback for the driver, taking care not to make the driving extreme for the track, so that it could also be driven on the open road.
All body panels, with the exception of the rear fenders, are made of carbon and Kevlar composite material, with the inclusion of the original RS bucket seats and magnesium alloy wheels. The suspension is height adjustable, with Bilstein elements. To counteract the lack of feedback from the power steering with the reduction in front weight, the original steering gear from the 964 RS model was applied, more direct and without unnecessary assistance. The icing on the cake is the (very) rare numbered LM220 WR performance kit, which includes a new control unit with map for 300hp and 340-365Nm, a new air mass meter and a performance filter enclosed in a new carbon intake box, signed by Walter Röhl himself. The sucked air is expelled through the Techart + Dansk exhaust system. The sound? You simply have to listen and enjoy.
The actual final weight, verified by us, is 1180kg, full tank! A power-to-weight ratio of 3.93 hp/kg. Comparing these data with the 1370kg announced for the base homologation version in 1990, it is quite a weight loss diet!
An exclusive and iconic package, difficult to match nowadays, based on what is probably the 911 model most sought after by ‘Neunelfers’ in recent years, or if it weren’t the one preferred by Singer for its unique creations. It is definitely not a “Garage Queen”, it was designed to be used. It is a car for true petrolhead enthusiasts, whether for moments on the track or on those special mountain roads.
