1993 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Targa
The 964 Carrera 2 Targa is the last 911 built around the original Targa concept: the brushed stainless steel hoop, the removable roof panel and the wraparound rear glass. From the 993 onwards Porsche replaced it with an electrically sliding glass roof, and only in 2014 did the classic hoop return with the 991. The 3.6 litre air-cooled flat-six produces 250 ps to the rear wheels. Beneath the familiar shape, the 964 was 85 percent new, with coil springs replacing torsion bars, and ABS and power steering as standard equipment.
Fun fact: the removable roof panel stayed out of the range for 21 years after the 964 ended. The 993, 996 and 997 all received a sliding glass roof instead. Only with the 991 in 2014 did Porsche dare bring the original hoop back.
