Building upon the tremendous success of the 997-generation 911, Porsche released the sensational 991-generation 911 in 2012. The final series of naturally aspirated standard 911s, the 991 introduced a new platform offering increased stability and structural rigidity over its predecessor along with distintive new styling. As had been the case from the transition from the 996 to the 997, the 991’s interior was once again dramatically updated with an even greater focus on luxury. Of course, performance was improved as well, with updated suspension tuning and improved motors.

For 2016, Porsche announced a series of intensive updates to the car in the name of imporiving efficiency and performance. Most notably, the old 3.8L Flat-6 was replaced with a new twin-turbocharged 3.0L Flat-6. Horsepower and torque were both increased, with the latter being available much sooner (and for longer) in the powerband. Exterior styling and interior amenities were refined, while newly available (for the Carrera S) rear-axle steering enhanced low-speed agility and high-speed stability. With production of the 991-generation 911 culminating in 2019 in favor of the new, far more “digital” 992, the 991 offers modern convenience with enthusiast-oriented charm.
