The requirements are often numerous and highly specific. A well-kept Carrera 2 tends to sit high on the wish list, preferably with sports seats and an appealing colour combination. On further reflection, one might also decide that a sunroof is best avoided, and perhaps a limited-slip differential would be rather nice while we are at it. Once all these preferences have been brought to the table the pool of candidates shrinks even further, turning what was already a demanding search into an exercise in patience.
It is therefore with particular pleasure that we at Epicar can now offer a Porsche 993 that ticks virtually every box. A car in which the features that so often require compromise are already in place, and one that might just bring the search for the right example to an end.
One fine early spring day in 1994, this Carrera 2 rolled out of the showroom of Bilforum, the Porsche dealer in Gothenburg. It had been ordered in what may well be the finest shade of yellow Porsche has ever offered: Speed Yellow. Fortunately, its first owner avoided the period’s more common light grey and blue leather interiors, opting instead for black leather and those wonderfully supportive sports seats, with side bolsters measuring approximately 25 centimetres across. They offer both comfort and the kind of support that keeps you firmly in place when the road starts to twist.
The specification continues with the 220 limited-slip differential, the 030 sports chassis and, importantly, the absence of a sunroof. Clearly, a genuine enthusiast with a discerning eye had been at work on the options list — something all of us Porsche aficionados can appreciate today.
