1996 Porsche 993 Targa in Polar Silver for sale!

Porsche introduced the Targa option on the 993 in 1996 to give the 911 buyer the option of open air motoring but still having a coupe body style. Porsche called this all glass roof the “greenhouse system”. The all new targa design featured a retractable glass roof panel that performed like a giant sunroof sliding down and in front of the rear window. The side windows were larger as well giving the driver and passengers a airy and light filled view of the environment outside. This roof design was very revolutionary and there really wasn’t any other sports car with such a feature of the time period. The 993 was the last of the air cooled 911s and today are much sought after by collectors. Porsche first introduced the Tiptronic shiftable automatic transmission on the 964 range and it was carried over and gaining in popularity on the 993 models. The Tiptronic allowed the 911 to appeal to another market segment and the cars were better equipped for touring and every day driving. 2442 Targa models were sold in 1996 but today these models are among the rarest body style in comparison to traditional Coupes and Cabriolets.

The vehicle in detail

This 993 Targa was built in January of 1996 and is finished in Polar Silver over Black leather. The 1996 993 featured the (M64/05) 3.6L air-cooled, flat 6 cylinder with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 272 HP and 243 ft labs of torque at 5000 RPM. Top speed was listed at 168 MPH. The 17-inch 2 piece wheels were unique to the Targa models as were the pillar-less door side windows. This 993 is equipped with the optional Tiptronic transmission, 8-way power front comfort seats, automatic climate control, colored wheel crests, front fog lamps, spare wheel kit, cruise control, trip computer, Porsche drive block alarm and remote lock entry system, speed activated rear spoiler, dual front air bags, adjustable interment wipers, and ellipsoid beam head lamps with washer jets. This car is in good cosmetic considering its age and having covered 78,000 miles since new.

Paint meter readings indicate that the driver door has been refinished at some point. The CarFax report is clean as is the WA state title. The check engine light is on currently however the car runs and drives well. The sunshade portion of the roof is non operational and has been removed. The glass sliding roof works as designed. The original Becker cassette radio was replaced with a modern Alpine CD unit and the door speakers were upgraded by a previous owner. Included items are the original owners manual set with leather folio, 2 remote keys, tool kit, tire compressor, jack, spare inflatable tire, 2 sets of black floor mats, Porsche battery tender, some service records.
