The vehicle in detail

This 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is finished in Grand Prix White and shows 43,740 miles at the time of cataloging. What separates this Carrera 4S from some of the other examples out there is a significant list of subtle modifications that enhance the appearance and driving enjoyment, but aren’t so over the top to be polarizing. As you approach the car, you first notice the gray Porsche script down the lower rockers, along with a set of Tramont Cup 2 wheels with gray centers. These are high-quality reproductions of the Speedline Cup wheels that you would have found on the 993 RS and 993 GT, but they are more affordable and known to be quite well-built. Behind those sit a set of yellow brake calipers that really pop against the dark gray wheel centers. The front bumper has received a few modifications as well- removing the US-spec bumperettes and adding 993 Turbo S ducts, which are paired with LED daytime running lights next to the side markers. In the rear of the car, the bumperettes have been painted body color, and the standard electronically raising rear wing is installed.

That being said, an Aero-Kit fixed rear wing has been freshly painted and is also included with the sale so you can choose your preferred 993 silhouette. To keep the car looking nice, paint protection film has been applied to the entire front of the car as well as the mirrors. These modifications won’t jump out at anyone besides the most die-hard Porsche fan, but to those who know, they are fantastic upgrades.

The interior is outfitted with black leather seats, with power adjustment and additional black leather bits from Custom Classic 9 on the dashboard and door cards. A 3-spoke sport steering wheel from a 996 generation car has been fitted in place of the unattractive stock 4-spoke wheel, and a custom carbon fiber on the center console, door pulls, and sills from Markus Bruhler have been installed. A modern Continental head unit has been installed, which offers Bluetooth and streaming audio from your phone, and new speakers have been fitted to the doors and rear deck. Rennline aluminum pedals have been fitted in the footwells, and a new set of high-quality Lloyds mats with Carrera 4S embroidery have been added.

Powering the 993 Carrera is a 3.6-liter M64 Flat-6 engine that produces 272 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque and loves to pull hard all the way to the 7,000 rpm redline. 1996 was the first year of the VarioRam system on the 993, which features variable length intake runners and is designed to optimize both low-down torque and high RPM power. The implementation of this system resulted in an increase of 14 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque. This car comes with a full-service history back to new, and recent work includes the replacement of the spark plugs, chain cover gasket reseal, new fuel pump, new lower gasket covers, and a new starter. A Fister 2 exhaust system gives the car some more noise but looks stock in the car and comes with 2 styles of OEM exhaust tips that you can choose between. The 6-speed manual gearbox received a new clutch around 35,000 miles, and an FDM short-shift kit with their “Goldenrod” shift rod has also been fitted for an exceptional shifter feel. The exceptional stance on this car can be credited to a set of Bilstein PSS10 coil-overs that have been fitted at all four corners and offer tremendous adjustability, and new drop links have also been installed.

Modified cars can sometimes be hit-or-miss when buying secondhand, but this 993 Carrera 4S is undoubtedly a winner. This is backed up by both the full-service history but also every modification carried out is either paying respects to another 993 models or from a well-known Porsche aftermarket company, ensuring that everything is done to the highest quality. If you love the 993 C4S but want a car that stands out a bit from the crowd, this is the ultimate car for you.

Porsche has become synonymous with its diverse array of 911 variants; however, this hasn’t always been the case. The introduction of the 993 generation witnessed the incorporation of two significant new models, the Carrera S and Carrera 4S, both of which have since cemented their place as integral pieces of the 911 lineup. Based on the body shell of the 993 Turbo, these new models were fitted with widened rear fenders, an updated front bumper, and Turbo brakes while deriving power from the naturally aspirated flat-6 engine from the standard Carrera. With production spanning just two years between 1996 and 1998, the Carrera 4S is one of the rarer and more sought-after variants of the 993.
