For every generation of Porsche’s fantastic 911 that came after the mid-70s, a variant has stood above them all. A variant that was often outwardly similar to the car that stands as a basis, but with an inside that is something completely different. For many, the only visual difference has been the ‘Turbo’ emblem at the back (for the connoisseur, of course more). But that little emblems make about the same difference as the iPhone emblem on the back of a phone today compared to a Motorola flip-phone. during the 70s and 80s, the Turbo cars were synonymous with the term ‘widowmaker’ as the cars were extremely toxic and slightly erratic. with the 993 generation, the car got four-wheel drive for the first time to make them more user-friendly, and this combined with better and better chassis and turbo response thanks to twin turbos made the Turbo the ultimate sports car. The generation that followed refined the recipe.
996 Turbo. Perhaps the most beautiful thing that Porsche produced at the time. A wide and aggressive but restrained exterior. A car that the average person would pass by on the street without reacting but who knows… This example is specified in a Metallic Black color and stands proudly on its timeless 18″ hollow spoke ‘Turbo Twist’ rims shod in Michelin rubber. The exterior is a symphony of round shapes and soft lines that somehow inexplicably shape something sharp and aggressive.Behind the screen has been given a well-sized intake to feed the engine with fresh air and for the first time on a 911 Turbo we see active aerodynamics in form of a rear hydraulic wing.
The inside continues the same shape and color palette. Black leather throughout that dresses round shapes. The driver’s seat is simple and functional. No multi-function steering wheel or digital instrument panel. The center console houses the PCM with GPS, which some 23 years later may not be in the same class as Google Maps, but something that immediately pleases the driver as a look back to 2001.
This is an exceptionally well-maintained example of one of our favorite variants of Porsche’s phenomenal 996. Swedish-sold with wonderful history and sparingly used.
