Under the hood lies a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine, producing 450 hp at 7,900 rpm and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The engine is derived directly from motorsport and is known for its impressive rev range and addictive sound. The 997.2 GT3 RS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 310 km/h (190 mph).
The 997.2 GT3 RS was designed with a focus on weight savings and handling. Compared to the standard 997 GT3, the RS features a wider rear axle, refined aerodynamics, and a lighter chassis. Porsche used features such as polycarbonate side windows, a lighter titanium exhaust, and a carbon fiber rear wing to keep weight to a minimum. A visual highlight is the centerlock wheels, which are derived directly from motorsport and contribute to weight savings and faster wheel changes on the track.
One of the most striking features of this RS is the use of a six-speed manual transmission, a rarity in modern sports cars. The combination of a mechanical differential and improved PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) ensures maximum grip and precision on both the road and the track.
The GT3RS is equally at home on the racetrack as it is on the road. Its precise steering, direct throttle response, and balanced suspension make it one of the most engaging driving experiences Porsche has ever offered.
Porsche demonstrated the capabilities of the 997.2 GT3 RS at the Nürburgring, where it achieved an impressive lap time of 7 minutes and 33 seconds, a feat that was exceptional for a road-legal car at the time.
