Bottom line: This car with its updates offers the comfort of a modern day car, while being the last 911 that feels like one.
Arguably the most collectable 911 at the moment and one of the last naturally aspirated 911 with 3,8l and real 355 bhp. 150kg lighter than the 997 Turbo, the S often feels more agile especially on curvy roads and narrow corners and the high revving engine to many feels more emotional.
Please see full feature list and history below.
This car was delivered in November 2005 to a female doctor in Hannover and then bought in Dezember 2011 by another female doctor in Hamburg who kept the car until today.
It has been upgraded to give you 992 comfort at low cost, while maintaining the character and fun factor of a real 911. Arguably the 997 is the one 911 that combines day-to-day practicality with unfiltered 911 feel.
Engine Rebuild and repairs
The engine got a 20k engine overhaul. As most of you will know, any of these models would sooner or later get bore scoring due to its construction with weak Alusil coated aluminum cylinders.
This car has had the engine rebuilt by one of the few real specialists, Scramowsky Motorsport in the South of Germany, replacing the old system by rigid cast iron cylinder liners, the go to solution for this problem not to reoccur. At the same time all moving parts such as pistons, timing chains, all seals, etc. have also been replaced. How this company rebuilds this engine model can be seen in this video: https://youtu.be/17HnuQsGe6E?si=TF1QUhB71T7VP_MY&t=102
Certainly the second big weakness, the rear main seal has also been replaced by a much better RMS to prevent this problem from reappearing. The waterpump and other engine parts have also been replaced.
Breaks, coils and shock absorbers are new in the front. Sensors have been replaced and another 997 weakness and annoying repair, the oil air separator is new. The cooling system is free of damage and working as it should. Engine and gearbox are certainly original and matching. Tyres are new, 2nd set of rims (same style).
Underbody
The underbody has been disassembled, any rust has been mechanically removed and the parts afterwards being protected. Every screw, tube, break line, spring, etc. has been thoroughly cleaned and detailed.
Comfort Upgrades / Sound Proofing
The 997 is famous for its unbearable road noise getting into the cabin. It’s what prevents owners to use this car for longer trips. We have taken out all interiors and carpets, stripped down the doors and have soundproofed everything except for the wall towards the engine compartment to maintain engine sound. But noise from the floors, doors foot wells and wheel cases is now cut in more than half. Driving this car at top speed has now become pure joy.
We also added a Porsche Classic PCCM+ radio with better speakerphone, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and digital radio tuners. The new radio works with the old multifunction steering wheel, shows trip computer data and allows for car settings such as autolocking doors, etc. to be programmed from the new radio.
Also widely common (and highly annoying) cracking noises from the 997 dashboard have been eliminated by damping critical zones with light foam.
Paint and Detailing
The car got a complete respray and was then color sanded for days with the greatest attention to detail to remove orange skin and dust nibs. Afterwards it was polished in several steps leaving the paint in a condition in which no car ever leaves a factory. (In fact car companies send their 0km special editions to the specialist where this car was restored, in order to correct the thick and dull factory paint)
After the final polish the paint was protected with a hardness-scale 10h ceramic coating by GTechniq (Crystal Serum Ultra, the best available). This specialised product has a 9 year warranty and protects from color fading in the sun and from being damaged by bird excrements and tree sap. Finally a GTechniq Exo V5 coating was added for repelling dirt and water.
