The Porsche 911 GT2 has long occupied a unique position within the 911 line up, combining the performance of the turbocharged models with the focused, rear-wheel-drive philosophy of Porsche’s GT department. Introduced in 997-generation form in 2007, the 997 GT2 sat at the very top of the 911 range and was, upon its launch, the most powerful road-going 911 Porsche had ever produced. Believed to be one of just 62 right-hand-drive examples supplied to the UK, the 997 GT2 remains an exceptionally rare sight.
At its heart is Porsche’s formidable 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 530 bhp and 680 Nm of torque. Unlike the contemporary 911 Turbo, which employed four-wheel drive, the GT2 sent its power exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The result was a considerably more focused and involving machine, capable of accelerating from 0–62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 204 mph.
The GT2 was about far more than outright performance. Porsche combined extensive weight-saving measures with a rear-wheel-drive configuration, while the chassis, aerodynamics and braking package were developed specifically for the demands of the car. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes were fitted as standard, together with model-specific suspension and extensive aerodynamic revisions, including the distinctive fixed rear wing. The result was a 911 that combined extraordinary performance with the immediacy, balance and driver involvement for which Porsche’s GT cars have become renowned.
The car also benefits from an excellent documented service history from new, all carried out by its original supplying dealer:
