Onassis Airtimes: The event tip 2020

Streetart.Motorsport.Revival. 2020

Onassis Airtimes – new perspectives, mellow vibes and high spirits. Buzzwords that announce the next BIG HIT in the alternative Porsche scene. The somewhat different Porsche meeting, that started 6 years ago as Tunnelrun and peaked last year with “800”, is going full speed ahead to the next stage – Onassis Airtimes 2020. As in the previous year, more than 300 Porsche vehicles will travel from all over Europe meet with friends for what is probably the most relaxed get-together, that you can envision in this country. A colorful and yet to-be-defined community found its home here, that’s what it felt like strolling through the rows of cars and participants at 800. Good vibes and miles away from the clichees oft he classic Markentreffen. We spoke to the founder Tom Gaedtke about the background and what the participants can expect from the sixth edition of his event series.

Onassis Airtimes poster

Tom, we saw this years poster for your event. A real eye-catcher! Who is behind it and how did the idea come along?

Thanks so much! We are very happy how the artwork turned out. Moritz from @ flat6high5 did all the graphic work, as in the past two years. We telepathically found a way to merge our thoughts into a final artwork, we’re also surprised it worked out. But jokes aside, the poster is one of the most important parts for the event for me. We’re talking about something that is months away, so the poster must evoke an idea in the viewer and excite at first glance. I think that worked.

Definitely! A tarmac and old Porsche, thats draws a nice picture in your head right away. What can participants expect?

Obviously the idea of using an airfield for an event is not new. In the 1960s airfield races with Porsche participation were omnipresent, and in modern times, airfields have been used for events from time to time. I think that my event thrives on simply making something different out of the possibilities. We’ve always been pretty good at creating the unexpected in the past. This year is the location of the event is publicly communicated for the first time. This makes organization so much easier and i’m particulary stoked, that it’s happening close to where I come from.

Can you say anything about the event schedule yet?

Yes and no. This year the programm will be partly shared in advance with those, who have already registered, but there will be a lot of surprises. We will once again give everyone a few small tasks to prepare. What I can share is that the entire airfield will be used and with hopefully awesome weathers we will celebrate an awesome summers night party. Most of all we want to create an unforgettable event again with the help of our partners!

Sounds great. Another important question: Who can participate at Onassis Airtimes?

Anyone who feels comfortable at the event! Of course, this is not very revealing for people who have never been there before. It’s very important for us that we are a mellow community and not a place for people with big egos. There are no best parking spots and no awards, we are not a tuning show and it is not about who has the coolest car. Our participants are colorful, young and old, female and male. All of them unite the love for the Porsche brand and the interest in the community. A lot of real friendships started a tour events!

It’s very important for us that we are a mellow community and not a place for people with big egos.

Where do you get tickets for Onassis Airtimes?

The tickets are only available in advance and you have to hurry to secure a spot. We have a very loyal community in our former participants, which get first pick to buy a ticket. This year, despite the current situation, it’s the same as in past years. A lot oft he tickets already sold by now, which of course makes me very happy!

As you mention it, how do you deal with the current happenings? Announcing an event in the times of a pandemic seems a bit surreal to many. How do you deal with this when planning Onassis Airtimes?

The preparations for Onassis Airtimes started last year – a time when all this seemed out of the question. Of course we’re affected by it, just as much as everyone around us. We played through all possible scenarios internally l with the same result. The event will take place! If we are still not able to hold an event in just under 5 months due to the pandemic, this will not stop us.

All tickets will remain valid for an alternative date or an alternative event at a later date.

All tickets will remain valid for an alternative date or an alternative event at a later date. This is part of our emergency plan, which all involved partners as well as authorities and location share. We are not a musician coming on tour for the last time. We are a movement that cannot be stopped.
