Of approximately 1,580 examples of the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, more widely known variants, such as the RS Touring (M472) and RS Lightweight (M471), had much larger production numbers: over 1,308 M472 and about 200 M471 units, respectively. These RS-H cars differ from other RS variants in configuration and factory documentation, supporting their unique status in Porsche history. Therefore, only 17 units of the 1973 Porsche 911 RS-H were built, making it one of the rarest classic Porsche models.
The RS-H had the following specifications, making it an ultra-lightweight version.
A comprehensive build began life as a 911T and has since been transformed into an exceptionally accurate Carrera RS-H through a no-expense-spared restoration. Supported by over $200,000 in documentation, this example reflects a level of precision, craftsmanship, and correctness seldom seen in any RS builds today.
The cosmetic condition is simply stunning; the 911 exhibits excellent panel fit, perfect gaps, and high-quality paintwork. Exterior details include a Carrera RS front spoiler, RS ducktail, Carrera side script, 7s and 8s Fuchs 15” alloy wheels restored by Harvey Weidman, finished to the correct RS spec, mounted to Pirelli Cinturato CN36 185/70 VR15 front and 215/60 VR 15 rear tires. The interior features Porsche Recaro Style 2.7 RS bucket seats, RS lightweight door panels, roll bar, RS speedometer, and tachometer. The undercarriage is solid, rust-free, and properly finished to RS-H spec, with straight floors and no undercoat.
From 2016 to 2017, Vintage Car Works in Phoenix, Oregon, performed a complete bare-metal restoration, producing a body that captures the original 2.7 RS-H’s authentic proportions, stance, and presence. Work included:
• Installation of factory-style steel Carrera RS flares
• RS body modifications and close-panel fitment
• Complete refinishing and reassembly of the exterior components
• Carrera RS quarter windows
• RS ducktail, RS seat supports, RS clock plug, and RS roll bar
• Reinforced rear trailing arms
Mechanically, the 911 was elevated to true RS-H specification, centered around a 2.7L flat-six fitted with Mahle Nikasil 90 mm cylinders, J&E pistons, 9.5:1 compression ratio, and a 70.4 mm crankshaft. All machine work was performed by Ollie’s in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, with final assembly completed by European Autowerke in Fall City, Washington. The mechanical work alone exceeded $78,000. The mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system was rebuilt and calibrated by Pacific Fuel Injection in San Francisco, California. The result is an RS-spec drivetrain delivering the power, throttle response, and character expected from a 2.7 RS build. The mechanical scope included:
