The year 1973 marked the end of several eras at Porsche, though many didn’t realize it at the time, with the most significant change being for the 911. The model was about to undergo its first major update in a decade for the 1974 model year, which would introduce large impact bumpers and a redesigned interior, signaling the end of the classic «long-hood» 911 shape and the range of 27 standard and optional colors. Porsche, always refining its designs with incremental changes, began offering the 2.4-liter 911 T engine on the U.S.-market with the new Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) fuel injection system in January 1973. Dubbed 1973.5 models, these 911 Ts bound for the United States were the first to receive the torquier CIS injected Type 911/91 engine that would become standard for the 911 the next year.

Built at the very end of production, this Medium Ivory 911 T Coupe was first sold by Johnson-Bozzani Porsche Audi of Phoenix, Arizona. The rare original window sticker records that this well-equipped example was optioned with the cryptic Option Group G26—also known as the S-Trim Package—for $1,075 that included 911 S trim and instruments, Fuchs wheels, air conditioning, stabilizer bars and heated rear window. Further additional cost options selected included a five-speed transmission, the aforementioned optional Medium Ivory paint, genuine leather front seats, oil cooler, and an electric sunroof. These options totaled nearly $2,600, or almost 24-percent of the total window sticker price of nearly $11,000 when new! Interestingly, while the window sticker notes “Mechanical Fuel Injection,” it is well-known that this example, in fact, was delivered with the CIS fuel injection system that would become standard across the U.S. market 911 model range the very next year.

Over 50 years after it rolled off the assembly line in Stuttgart, this well-optioned 911 Coupe remains in highly original condition, continuing to wear its original coat of Medium Ivory paint as shown on a current paint meter sheet. The car shows every sign—inside and out—of careful ownership from new. Perhaps most impressively, the interior shows minimal wear, with both the driver and passenger seat bottoms showing the correct “tuck” with original carpeting and surfaces throughout. A major air conditioning system service was conducted in September 2023 with a new upgraded compressor, condenser, evaporator, hoses, and dryer.

Simply put, the early 911 is a driver’s car. As a result, the majority have been well-enjoyed and are less than factory original after a half-century on the road. Not so for this special «time capsule” 1973 911 T Coupe. It is among the rare few preserved cars that still retains its original paint, window sticker, and numbers-matching engine, as confirmed by the Jürgen Barth-supplied build sheet.
