Following its domination of the Can-Am racing series in 1972 and 1973, Porsche applied its hard-won turbocharging expertise from the track to road-going production. Unveiled at the 1974 Paris Motor Show, the Type 930 represented a bold new chapter in Porsche performance. Its 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six engine, widened wheel arches, uprated suspension, and signature “whale tail” rear spoiler made it instantly recognizable. Both thrilling and demanding to drive, the 930 delivered benchmark performance for its era, accelerating from 0–60 mph in under six seconds and reaching a top speed of around 155 mph.

Finished in Grand Prix White over a Cinnamon leather interior, this 1976 Porsche 930 is among 520 first-year examples built for the US market between September 1975 and July 1976. Specially ordered by Los Angeles attorney Ronald M. Resch through Ralph Cutright Porsche-Audi in Santa Monica on August 27, 1975, the car is distinguished on its original ordering invoice as the first 930 ordered for American delivery. Equipped with a host of desirable options, the invoice lists Recaro sport seats, limited-slip differential, 1.5 hp starter motor, electric sunroof, Becker Mexico cassette stereo, and wider 8- and 9-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, for an estimated total price of $27,972.

Although identified as the first 930 ordered for the US market, the car’s special-order configuration resulted in delayed completion and delivery on February 6, 1976. Processed through Volkswagen Porsche Audi of America’s Western Region in Culver City, California, it was shipped from Germany in January 1976 and delivered new to Mr. Resch the following month. Such was his anticipation that he secured personalized California license plates reading “930” even before taking delivery – a detail confirmed by a letter from the California Department of Motor Vehicles included in the file.

Mr. Resch reportedly retained and carefully preserved the car until about 1997, when it was sold to the family behind The Grant Boys, a well-known Costa Mesa, California retailer of outdoor gear. Later owned by Michael Maclaran of Yorba Linda, California, the 930 was sold in 2015 and entrusted to Jakob’s Porsche of North Vancouver, where the engine was removed and rebuilt, the gearbox inspected and serviced, and new Michelin TB5 tires mounted on its original special-order Fuchs wheels. In 2017, this 930 was sold and exported to Germany, and has since passed to one additional owner.

Remaining in largely original, well-preserved condition, this desirable three-liter 930 is accompanied by an exceptional trove of documentation and delivery equipment – including factory records, invoices, correspondence, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, books, tools, and two sets of personalized “930” plates. As one of the earliest US-market Turbos produced, it stands as a landmark in Porsche’s evolution from racing dominance to road-going performance icon.
