Initially retained by Porsche for internal use, this remarkably original Carrera RS Clubsport is one of just 227 configured in the highly desirable “M003” Clubsport specification. In November 1996 it was purchased by Italian gentleman driver, Giuseppe Giovenzana, principally to contest the popular Targa Tricolore Porsche series. Duly prepared by the Bergamo-based Autorlando Sport team, significant results followed, including overall victory in the 1997 Monza 300 kilometres, 3rd overall in the 1997 Misano 100 miles, and 3rd overall at Mugello later that year. In 1998, class wins were forthcoming at Paul Ricard, the Nürburgring, Magione, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, and Misano. Giovenzana shared the car with former Porsche 935 driver and 1977 Daytona 24 Hours runner-up, Romeo Camathias, on three occasions.
In 2000, ownership passed to Roberto Franzoni, who also used the car to contest Targa Tricolore events; its preparation was again entrusted to Autorlando. Although results were initially modest, 2003 yielded further class wins at Mugello, Spa-Francorchamps, and Monza. Subsequently passing into new long-term ownership, chassis 390115 was acquired by the consigning owner in 2017. In their care, it has been subject to expenditure of almost €30,000.
Blessed with a fascinating early factory association, an extensive race history, and exceptional originality, this example remains among the most significant of RS 3.8s currently available.
