Porsche 997 Speedster

The Speedster name was later revived for the G-Series 911 of 1989, the later 964 generation, continuing to the 993-era 911. The model has always been heralded as one of the most desirable in Porsche’s range—and one that kept Stuttgart firmly in touch with its roots. For the 997-generation 911, the new Speedster was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, and—true to its heritage—it was coveted as an instant modern-day hit.

Using the Carrera GTS as a base, and with the Powerkit-equipped 3.8-litre flat-six at its heart, the Speedster came equipped with virtually every available option available, including the Sport Chrono package, carbon-ceramic brakes, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.
This 911 Speedster’s unique body is paired with black-centered Fuchs Classic alloy wheels and a black rock-chip protector on the rear quarters that evokes memories of the classic “Turbo Look” models of years past. The windscreen is perhaps the most distinctive component of any Speedster design, and in these cars, has been reduced by 70 millimeters.

The tonneau cover has been altered to both hold the high centre-mounted brake light and allow space for a new louvered engine lid design. Porsche Exclusive-department interior tailoring is represented by several contrasting trim panels and Speedster-specific motifs. Just two standard colour options were available for the new 911 Speedster: Carrera White, and a colour exclusive to the 997-generation Speedster model, Pure Blue. The only interior colour option was black leather, with matching details for the chosen exterior colour. In total, Porsche Exclusive produced just 356 examples for the 2011 model year—a fitting number that once more acknowledges the manufacturer’s past.

Produced in May 2011, this German-market example is numbered 177 of the 356 Speedsters built. It has remained in fastidious care and has been seldom used since delivery, displaying just 229 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
Serial number 177 is cloaked in the model-exclusive, code M0 Pure Blue over a black leather interior featuring Pure Blue accents and a black soft-top roof. Curiously, it was specified with black leather free from the model’s unique checkered-flag upholstery motif.

Widely considered to be the ultimate open-top incarnation of the 997-generation 911, the Speedster combines stunning good looks, production rarity, and exemplary performance into an instantly collectable package. This example is presented in virtually as-new condition throughout and would sit beautifully alongside any of its Speedster siblings—old and new—as a celebration of Porsche’s rich heritage.
