Based on the S version, the Cayman R is more ultimate, sportier and more exclusive. Porsche engineers have truly differentiated this new version from the rest of the pack, with the central theme of reducing the power-to-weight ratio in order to make the machine more dynamic and high-performance… First of all, it’s in terms of power that things change: the 3.4-liter engine develops 10 more hp, for a total of 330 hp. Chassis-wise, specific adjustments have been made, and ground clearance has been reduced by 20mm. A limited-slip differential comes as standard.
Secondly, the Porsche Cayman R stands out in terms of weight reduction. With 55 kg less on the scales, this R adopts the dry regime. The use of aluminum for the doors, for example, or the absence of comfort equipment such as radio, air conditioning or cupholders, result in an unladen weight of 1,295 kg, or 3.9 kg/hp. The beast’s dynamic abilities and performance are also impressive: its claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds with PDK gearbox and Sport Chrono Pack makes it a formidable weapon… Finally, in terms of aesthetics, there are a few coquetries to note, such as the black front headlamp surrounds, the side strippings and the imposing fixed spoiler to increase downforce. Produced in just 1138 examples, this extra-ordinary toy is sure to be a collector’s item before its time…
