The car comes with its original removable hard top, finished in contrasting white (not included in the price). The hard top was manufactured by Karmann and offered by Porsche from 1958 onwards. Once installed, it closely resembles the more recent Karmann “Notchback” coupés. A 1959 factory accessories catalogue advertised the hardtop at a factory retail price of $170. Many convertibles delivered with a hardtop, particularly in Europe, were not equipped with a folding fabric top, making this example even more unique.
Not much is known about the history of this car, except that it has its original gearbox and engine. The last owner purchased the car in 2016 with 82,016 kilometres on the clock. The current owner bought the car in 2022 and has since maintained it with care. The car was completely restored and completed at the end of 2015. This restoration was carried out by George Wilkie, an American 356 specialist from Meisterwerk.
