Introduced in September 1959, the Porsche 356 B marked a significant evolution over the earlier 356 A. Easily distinguished by its modernized styling, this first-generation “T5” model featured a redesigned front end, higher-mounted bumpers, and subtly revised bodywork, while retaining the iconic lines that had established the timeless appeal of the 356. This 1600 Super version is powered by a 1,582 cc air-cooled flat-four engine producing 75 horsepower. More powerful than the standard version, it offers an outstanding balance of performance, reliability, and sporting character, remaining true to Porsche’s philosophy.
The example presented here is a Porsche 356 B Roadster 1600 Super, produced on November 28, 1960, and delivered new in early 1961 by the renowned Hoffman importer in New York, USA. Powered by its original matching Type 616/2 engine producing 75 hp and fitted with its original Type 716/2 gearbox, this car is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming its original factory specifications. It currently shows just under 53,000 kilometers on the odometer.
The car has benefited from a comprehensive restoration carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s original specifications. The quality of this work reflects the great care taken to preserve the car’s authenticity, originality, and character.
Finished in its original Ivory paint (Code 6004) and complemented by a Red Leatherette interior, this 356 B Roadster is presented in one of the most elegant and desirable factory colour combinations offered by Porsche in the early 1960s. The combination perfectly highlights the Roadster’s clean, timeless lines, while its Super engine, factory-certified original configuration, and desirable Hoffman New York delivery further enhance its rarity and appeal.
The car is available for viewing by appointment, either in person or virtually, at our showroom. We would be pleased to provide a detailed video presentation and a digitized history file upon request.
