1964 PORSCHE 911 2.0 *FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION*

The legend of the Porsche 911 was truly born at the Frankfurt International Motor Show on September 12, 1963, with the presentation of the 901 to the public. Presented as the replacement of the mythical 356, the name of the car will quickly become controversial. Indeed, Peugeot does not see very well the use of this name: the 0 in the middle poses a problem, since it is the trademark of the models of the lion brand. At the Paris Motor Show in October 1964, Porsche solves this conflict quickly by replacing this 0 by a 1, and thus begins the history of the Porsche 911. Only 232 copies of the Porsche 911 were produced in 1964, before production was stopped on December 23, 1964. The 1991 cc six-cylinder engine develops 128 horsepower and the car is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. Many interesting specificities distinguish the 1964 models from those that will come later: the window frames, the sheet metal of the engine compartment, the smooth rear crossbar, …

The vehicle in detail

The first 82 production models leave the factory on September 14, 1964 (chassis 300 007) with the 901 badges, then on November 10, 1964, the name 911 is adopted definitively. Apart from the badges, these first cars are strictly identical. The chassis numbers of these cars are specific, and go from 300 001 to 300 232. We are pleased to offer for sale chassis 300 136.

Produced on December 03, 1964 and delivered on January 22, 1965 in Lausanne, Switzerland, this important car in the history of Porsche was ordered in the color Ruby Red (available in 1964 and 1965) with black leather interior. The Kardex certificate of origin provided by Porsche comes with the car. This Porsche has been fully restored in every detail, respecting of course its original specifications mechanically and aesthetically, and with a remarkable precision. Countless pictures of the restoration are available, going into the smallest details, and showing the car and its parts at every stage of the project.

The gearbox n°100 154 type 901/0 is in agreement with the sheet metal number, also present and conforming. The engine, originally n°900 247, has been replaced by the engine block n°900 136, dismantled then rebuilt during the restoration, coinciding by a happy chance with the chassis number of the car which is 300 136. The engine is fed by 6 PI carburetors, and the car is equipped with a Dansk silencer. The Blockley tires, discs and brake pads are new. All the axles have been dismantled and restored. The undercarriage is in clinical condition as shown in the pictures taken in our garage.

Few examples of the first 911s are still in existence, the records available online put the figure at around 100. In a sublime condition, coming out of an important restoration, this car is perfect in every respect. The car, registered in France, has covered only 30 kilometers since the end of the restoration and runs perfectly. This is an opportunity to acquire a major historical piece in the history of Porsche, which represents the beginnings of the 911, and whose history continues successfully today.

FR:
