model history
The Porsche 964 was presented in January 1986 and was shaped by the well-known designer Benjamin Dimson. The Porsche 964 clearly stood out from its predecessors in the 911 model series, particularly thanks to its distinctive bumpers. It was not only the first Porsche vehicle to be equipped with the innovative Tiptronic automatic transmission, but also offered the option of all-wheel drive for the first time. As the internal designation for the 911 Carrera 2 and 911 Carrera 4 models, the legendary term “964” caught on among trade journals and enthusiasts. Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre M64 engine, the Porsche 964 became an impressive success by the end of 1993, with a total of almost 63,800 models produced in Stuttgart.
