The vehicle in detail

This 3.2 has had its service book since new and service invoices since the 2000s. It is in excellent condition and shows no signs of impact or accident. The paint thicknesses show a veil of paint on the front mask and rear hood, with the rest of the car in original thicknesses. Alignments are good.

The interior is in good condition, with carpets and leather in good condition. The only thing to note is the shrinkage of the leather on the dashboard cap, which is a common ailment with many Porsches of this generation. Note the presence of its original car radio, still in working order.

Mechanically, it works very well. The engine is full and torquey, the 915 gearbox is well tuned and doesn’t stick. The chassis is perfectly tuned, and braking is good and powerful.

The 911 SC generation was almost the last 911 generation. Faced with the dissatisfaction of its customers and enthusiasts, Porsche finally decided to keep the car in its catalog, at the instigation of Peter Schutz, and to replace the 3.0-liter engine fitted to the SCs with a 3.2 from 1983 onwards, giving a new dynamic to the 911 range.

Presented at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 911 3.2 did not evolve aesthetically from the last SCs, apart from a few details. In particular, 15-inch telephone wheels were fitted as standard, with Fuchs wheels still available as an option.

The Carrera 3.2’s engine had to take into account numerous constraints, notably in terms of fuel consumption and pollution, with a view to marketing in the US, Porsche’s first market. The SC’s aluminum block is increased to 3,164 cm3 in displacement, and now develops 231 hp compared with 204 hp for the latest SCs. The K-jetronic is replaced by a new Bosch DME ignition and injection control system.

The gearbox was initially the 915 developed for the 2.4S in 1972. The great evolution of the 3.2 came in 1987 with the appearance of the G50 gearbox, developed by Getrag, which was faster and more precise than the 915.

For the 1984 model year, Porsche offered the M491 Turbo Look option for a mere 1/3 of the car’s price. Called the Carrera Sport Package in the USA, the enlarged Turbo body was accompanied by the original 911 Turbo 917 wheels, suspension components and brakes, while the torsion bars and stab remained identical to those of the standard model.
