1973 Porsche 911 2.4 E for sale in UK!

Following the successful launch of the original 911 in 1964, Porsche revised the cars considerably from 1969 with a new longer wheelbase and revised model line-up.

The new 911E was designed to be the more comfortable and drivable of the 911 range fitting in between the 911T (Touring) and the 911S (Super). The designation ‘E’ came from the German for injection: einspritzung. The mechanical fuel injection system (MFI) was used on the 911E and the 911S and developed jointly between Bosch and Porsche.

The vehicle in detail

The benefits were better power and drivability with a cleaner running engine. In 1973 for the final series, the engine was now 2.4 litres and, in the E, now produced 165BHP, the rest of the specification was very similar to the 911S. Whilst the S had the headline grabbing 190BHP at 6,500 RPM, the torque was actually only 10NM more than the E and this was not achieved until a high 5,200RPM meaning it had to be worked hard at all times to extract  this extra power. The E in contrast was producing its maximum torque some 800RPM earlier, making it the far easier car to drive briskly in most situations and certainly the more useable car to use in the real word today.

We are pleased to offer this 1973 F series Porsche 911E for sale, finished in the correct period colour of Roman purple with tan interior, that was the subject of a very comprehensive restoration a few years ago, which is fully documented in the history file.

The coachwork was entrusted to DMG Coachworks in Surrey who stripped the car completely and replaced all corroded metalwork with new, before repainting in its original colour. When it came to rebuilding the engine, renowned specialist Nick Moss of Early 911 deemed that the original crank cases should be replaced (the originals can be supplied with the car to maintain the provenance if required). It was fully rebuilt with barrels/pistons, crankshaft, cam shafts, chains, carriers and hydraulic tensioners. The engine pulls strongly and a rolling road test at the time confirms it produced one brake horse over the quoted 165bhp from new when first rebuilt. Early 911 were also entrusted to rebuild the gearbox, which was fitted with a new flywheel and clutch and restoring all the anodised parts correctly. The brakes and suspensions were completely overhauled and interior Porsche specialist, Southbound, were instructed to produce the new interior and refurbish the seating in the original colour of Tan (502). In all, a great deal of expenditure has gone into making this a very fine Porsche 911E and as a testament to the quality of the restoration work at the time, still presents in excellent rust-free condition today. As well as all invoices and documents to support the history, included is recent email correspondence with some fond memories between the second owner who purchased it in 1974 and the current owner today.

An increasingly rare opportunity to purchase a 2.4 911E Coupe in right hand drive that not only performs as it should but is finished in its original vibrant colour combination that oozes with the charm of its era.
