Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer

Coupé, 1990

Highlights

  • The ‘Somerset Commission’
  • Rare opportunity!
  • PTS Dark Ivory with Tan Leather

Singer Vehicle Design was founded in 2009 by British singer-songwriter Rob Dickinson. Driven by his love of the Porsche brand, he set out to preserve and enhance Porsche’s iconic air-cooled 911s. The 964 model was chosen as the foundation for Singer’s vision of creating the ultimate 911. Over the past 16 years, Singer Vehicle Design has become renowned for producing some of the finest redesigned and re-engineered bespoke 911s in the world.

Known as the ‘Somerset Commission’, this particular example began life as a 1990 964 Carrera 2 Coupe. In 2016, it was sent to Singer’s headquarters in the USA to be ‘reimagined’ by the highly skilled craftsmen in Southern California. The goal was to capture the finest details of the early 911s, incorporating Ferdinand ‘Butzi’ Porsche-inspired design cues while adding modern driving capabilities.

The vehicle in detail

It was specified with the Ed Pink 4.0-litre upgraded engine option, producing around 400 hp. Given the car’s weight of just 1,100 kg, the performance and driving experience are exceptional. Additional mechanical enhancements include a 6-speed gearbox, Öhlins adjustable sport suspension, and Brembo premium calipers finished in Singer Racing Red with white lettering.

Exterior highlights include a Paint-to-Sample (PTS) finish in Dark Ivory, bespoke ghosted racing side-stripe graphics and lettering in black, matching decklid lettering, and Fuchs-style wheels in a two-tone finish of satin black with matte-anodized petals and centre caps. Desirable options such as a centre-fill fuel cap and external oil filler complete the exterior.

The pièce de résistance is the interior: a masterpiece of design finished in tan leather with upgraded carbon-fibre ‘track’ bucket seats. Additional features include drilled floorboards, square-weave carpet mats with rubber overlays, Dark Ivory-painted lower interior panels and sills, a Becker audio system, rear seats combined with a rear roll cage and racing harnesses, and a Singer Racing Orange tachometer, bringing together both elegance and purpose.

Fresh from its annual maintenance service, carried out by Singer Vehicle Design UK, including new tyres just 402 km ago, the car is presented in as-new condition throughout. It comes complete with its leather handbook pouch, Singer Vehicle Design ownership notes (Type 964) booklet, Porsche 964 owner’s manual, Meta Trak security system, Singer holdall bag, Singer accessory bag, car cover, battery conditioner, warning triangle, spare keys, and a comprehensive history file. This file includes a BBC Top Gear magazine article from December 2020, featuring a driving report on this very car by Porsche marque expert Chris Harris.
